The commitment comes as no suprise since January's father, Glen Sr., played at Tech in the mid-70s.
"It's like a dream come true," January said.
"I've wanted to go to Tech for a long, long time. So when the offer came on Thursday, we sat down and talked things over as a family. By the time we were done, it made sense - Texas Tech was also the place for me."
While January plays tight end in high school - his frame, 5.1 second time in the 40-yard dash and his 23-inch vertical make him a very solid tight end prospect.
January picked the Red Raiders over Texas A&M, TCU, SMU, Notre Dame and Rice.
