Texas lineman commits to Northwestern

Spring Branch (Texas) Smithson Valley offensive lineman Connor Smith needed only an official visit to Northwestern to know he wants to play his college football in the Big Ten.
"I loved it," Smith said. "I committed.

"I liked the players. My player host, Kurt Mattes, was great. Everything was great. I just really enjoyed it."
Of course the academics at Northwestern were a factor.
"The academics are awesome," Smith said. "I might go into business and they have a good business department."
Smith had visits scheduled to Colorado State and Tulane the next two weekends.
"I'm going to cancel both of them," he said.
The 6-foot-4 and 285 pound Smith, who said he will play center for the Wildcats, had scholarship offers from Northwestern and Tulane.
