Texas LB surprises everyone

Bellville, Texas linebacker Garrett Dornon surpised even his family with his decision.
"Garrett surprised us Tuesday afternoon with a call from the gym," Nancy Dornon said of her son Garrett. "He was calling to tell us he was committing to Rice. We were scheduled to have dinner with (Rice assistant coach) Barney Farrar, at 5:30. At 2:30, he called to tell me he wasn't waiting till dinner, he was committing right then, that he had decided and was ready to commit."

The Dornon family is looking forward to focusing on Rice University, now that the recruiting ride is over.
"We are thrilled with Garrett's choice personally as well as professionally," Mrs. Dornon said. "He will play at the next level with a stellar group of people, train under outstanding coaches, get a world class education, grow intellectually--all while being less than an hour and a half from home."
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Dornon earned honorable mention All-District first-team honors despite not playing since suffering a torn ACL in the season opener. Dornon's knee is already healed after rehabilitation and therapy. He has been cleared to resume regular activities by doctors.
