Texas LB starting early 2007 campaign

The season is off and running for Friendswood (Texas) Clear Brook linebacker Anthony Smith and the Texas team, but things haven't started off as smoothly as the team would have liked.
The 6-foot-1, 187-pound linebacker who is only a junior is already picking up recruiting interest from a handful of schools. With his size still increasing being at such as young age, Smith looks to add offers early on in his recruiting now that his junior year is underway. It just didn't get started the way he and his teammates would have liked.

"We played Aldine (Texas) Nimitz and we lost," Smith said about their opening game Friday. "There were too many mistakes going on and we really beat ourselves. I think I did pretty good, at least better than I thought I would. I got all of the jitters out."
As a junior, Smith is the starting inside linebacker for his team. Though he projects as an outside linebacker, he has done well at that position ever since his sophomore year where he put together 70 tackles, eight pass break-ups, and two sacks.
Now, schools are starting fill up his mailbox with letters.
"I've been getting letters already from Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Baylor so far," Smith said. "I'm thinking if I have to stay close to home, Texas and Baylor would be good choices."
"If I decide to go out of the state, I'd like to see schools like Florida State or some California schools."
Smith will have plenty of time to think about recruiting being a 2007 prospect. He understands that he has time.
"It's just me and my mother talking about schools right now," Smith said. "My coaches help too, but they're focusing on the seniors, which makes sense."
"I'm just looking around at everything right now."
