Texas LB picks up first offer

FORT WORTH, Texas - DeSoto, Texas linebacker R.J. Young broke the ice with his first word of offer news this past week.
Young, the 5-foot-11, 222-pounder, said after then NIKE Training Camp in Fort Worth, Texas this past weekend that he spoke with a coach from West Virginia early this week. That's when he heard the good news about the verbal offer.

"I talked to the coach over the phone and they're supposed to be sending the offer," Young said. "I didn't expect that from them. I hadn't heard anything about it before then. I think I'm going to take a visit out there this summer or during football season."
Young says several other schools have shown interest. Minnesota, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Colorado, and Rice are just a few of those.
As for where schools are recruiting him, Young says it varies.
"Everybody seems to be recruiting me as a weakside linebacker, but some schools are looking at me as a strong safety," Young said.
It was the one-on-one competitions during Saturday's camp that he felt like he excelled at.
"It just went real well," he said. "When we went inside to compete and I won a lot of those battles."
