Texas LB liked K-State camp

Southlake (Texas) Carroll High School has no problem adjusting to seven-on-seven tournaments. With their high school version of the Fun’N’Gun, seven-on-seven is right up their alley. Linebacker Ben Hixson may not play in that system, but he helped to reap the rewards with Carroll’s consolation championship at the Texas state championships last weekend in College Station.
“That format just comes naturally for us,” Hixson said. “We basically just run our regular offense. We won the consolation championship, but the funny thing is that we beat the (eventual) champion team during pool play.”

Hixson has kept himself busy this summer. Carroll’s weightlifting programs start at 6:30 a.m.. His visit to Kansas State’s summer camp was a welcome break.
“I went up to K-State this summer for their camp,” he said. “I really liked it up there. It was really nice. I mostly worked on different techniques, but it was a lot of fun.”
But at this point, he’s not earned any scholarship offers.
“I don’t have any offers yet, but Maryland wants me to come up on campus so that they can get a look at me in person,” he said. “I think that they are close to offering. I still get mail from most of the Big 12 schools, and a few others outside the Big 12.”
The 6-foot-2 215 pound Hixson says that he’s not really worried about recruiting yet. He is more focused on his senior year. When recruiting does come to the forefront of his mind, it will be atmosphere that helps him decide, and maybe a little bit of location.
“I want to go someplace that I can really fit in,” he said. “I don’t want to have to change myself. It would be nice to find a place in Texas, or somewhere closer to home. If that doesn’t work out though, I wouldn’t be afraid to leave the state.
