Texas LB growing in size, attention

Since his sophomore year, Friendswood (Texas) Clear Brook linebacker Anthony Smith has hit a growth spurt. Nearing 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, the talented young man is drawing attention on more than his measurements.
As a junior, Smith racked up 70 tackles and two sacks. Those totals also included eight pass break ups. Even with the tons of mail he's receiving and scholarship offers not too far off in the future, Smith thinks he could get even bigger.

"Oh yeah, I could pick up some more size before college," Smith said. "I've already put on 15 more pounds since just last fall. I know of know that I'm going to be an inside guy at the next level."
Mail has come from Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Colorado, Oklahoma, TCU, Kansas State, and Northwestern among others. Northwestern, A&M, and OSU have been the most frequent mailers.
"I'm patiently awaiting offers," Smith said. "I went to Texas A&M's junior day and I enjoyed myself there. I just don't have favorites yet. I'm just waiting to see the best option – I'll play anywhere."
Smith, who plans to take in the NIKE Training Camp on April 22 in College Station is looking to improve in the off-season.
"I had a good season last year that helped with recruiting," he said. "I'm just hoping to go into my senior year, looking to pick up my speed, hit the weight room, and be a hard hitter. I'm trying to get to that next phase of my game."
