Texas LB gets in-state offer

Friendswood (Texas) Clear Brook linebacker Anthony Smith didn't think he'd have to wait that long for his first scholarship offer after a solid junior season. He was right as the first one made it's way in this past Monday.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder has been working hard during spring football and it's obviously been worth the effort. UTEP jumped on the talented defender first with their offer.

"I got an offer from UTEP last Tuesday," Smith said. "They were talking to my coach, then coach Jeff Banks sent me a text message letting me know that was in the mail. It's a good start. Hopefully there are more to come.
"But, UTEP is a good school too. I'm real interested in them and glad they were the first one."
Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Northwestern, Baylor, and others have been showing heavy interesting Smith. Baylor was a school that he called this week on the phone to talk with.
"Coach text messaged me to call him and we just talked a little about how things are going in the spring and how I feel about their school," Smith said. "They're coming down sometime next week to check me out at practice."
Smith says that at the current time he doesn't have any visits planned and no early favorites.
"I'm just glad I'm being recruited," he said. "When more offers start coming in, then I can start comparing and naming favorites."
