Texas LB awaiting offers

Eagle Lake (Texas) Rice Consolidated linebacker Joe Cooper has yet to receive his first scholarship offer, but several schools have been in touch with him.
“I have gotten quite a bit of mail from several schools,” the 5-foot-10, 225-pound Cooper said. “I have not gotten any offers from anyone yet, but I think if I play well this fall, they will come.”

Cooper’s list of schools at this point includes Nebraska, Northwestern, Rice, SMU and TCU.
Cooper does not have a favorite school as he heads toward his final season of high school football.
“I want to find a school that is fairly close to home and has a good team,” he said. “I also want to find one that has a good academic situation that has a way to help their students if they have difficulties. I want to make sure I get a degree. That is really important to me.”
Cooper did not attend any school camps this summer, but he did take in one camp.
“I went to Rayford Cook’s private camp,” he said. “He used to play for the (Houston) Oilers and I really think I picked up some good things.”
Cooper earned first team all-district honors as a sophomore and followed that up with district most valuable player honors as a junior. He finished with 193 total tackles and six quarterback sacks.
