THE SITUATION
The Early Signing Period doesn't start until Wednesday but Texas fans already have reason to celebrate. The Longhorns added another big-bodied wide receiver to their class when three-star Kennedy Lewis announced his commitment on Tuesday afternoon. The pledge comes after months of speculation that he would end up with the Horns following his de-commitment from TCU.
WHY IT'S BIG FOR TEXAS
After missing out on Garrett Wilson and potentially missing out on Elijah Higgins, nabbing Lewis was a must for Texas in this class. In the wide-open Big 12 you can never have enough wide receivers, and Lewis size and hands makes him a matchup problem for most opposing defensive backs. It's worth nothing that the Longhorns also took Lewis away from TCU and Baylor, something that hasn't always been a given over the last decade.
WHY IT HURTS FOR BAYLOR, TCU AND OTHERSÂ
This one stings for TCU, especially considering the Horned Frogs did the early work in evaluating and landing Lewis. But once the offer came from Texas everyone knew it would be tough to keep him and sure enough, TCU ended up as an afterthought. Baylor had a very real shot over the past month but the Bears couldn't hold off the Longhorns. Losing out on Lewis hurts, but in the end he was always a bit of a long shot. Washington also entered the picture last for Lewis, but couldn't get him on campus and didn't factor into his final decision.
