Texas kicker hearing from two

SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. – Bryan, Texas native Rex Urquhart headed west recently to take part in the Chris Sailer Top 12 Kicking Camp at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Calif. At the event, Urquhart showed off his big leg and kickoff aptitude, while still taking the time to talk about his recruitment.
"My biggest interests have been U of H and Kansas State," Urquhart said at the event. "I went up to Kansas State and Kicked up there and it went pretty good."

A unfortunate turn of events kept Urquhart from participating at Houston, a stroke of bad luck that may have cost him an offer, at least for now.
"I couldn't go to the U of H camp because I got food poisoning," he said. "They had sent me an email right before the camp saying that if I was to attend that a scholarship looked to be coming soon and that they couldn't offer me until the end of football season if I couldn't attend and then I couldn't make it."
Despite the setback, if the offer does eventually come from the Cougar staff, they would be sitting in a good position with Urquhart.
"I'm not sure what's going to happen on that," he said. "I think I want to stay home and U of H is in Texas by where I live. It's definitely something I'm looking at."
As a kicker, Urquhart's most unique quality is his leg strength and kickoff abilities.
"[My strength is] definitely kickoffs," he said. "Hang time is my big, big thing. [College coaches are] really liking that. Usually college hangtime is about 4.0 (seconds). I'm averaging about 4.1 or 4.2 so that's good."
At this point, Urquhart is in no hurry to make his college decision.
"I'm just going to wait to see what happens," he said. "When I get an offer, I'm probably not going to commit anytime soon just because I want to take my time and figure out what I'm going to do."
