Florida suffered another blow to their recruiting class as Rivals250 safety Xavier Filsaime flipped his commitment to Texas following a weekend official with the Longhorns.
The process: Filsaime was a huge pickup for Billy Napier and the Gators back on April 13th, but despite a recent in-home visit with Napier, defensive backs coach Will Harris, and defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong, Florida couldn't hold off the momentum from Texas and Steve Sarkisian. The Longhorns were able to get the four-star talent on campus for an official visit this past weekend and secure one of the premier defensive backs in the 2024 class.
What the Longhorns are getting: The 6-foot, 190-pound prospect is the No. 32 prospect int he 2024 class and displays speed, range, and explosiveness in his overall game. During his senior season, Filsaime tallied 64 tackles, two interceptions, six passes defended, while forcing two fumbles. He uses his speed and length to cover a lot of ground in the secondary and is a physical tackler at the point of attack.
Loaded secondary: With Filsaime in the fold, he joins an absolutely loaded secondary class for the Longhorns that also features four-stars Kobe Black, Wardell Mack, Jordan Johnson-Rubell, Santana Wilson, and Aeryn Hampton.
