Texas DT has first offer, favorite school

Houston (Texas) Stratford may be getting attention with quarterback Andrew Luck leading the offense, but on defense, Jimmy Burge has added his first scholarship offer and is a target of several schools early on.
The 6-foot-2, 275-pounder received word this week that an official offer was on the way from Fresno State. Burge, a two-time all-district performer, is also looking heavily at schools like Texas A&M, TCU, Northwestern, and SMU among many others.

"There are a lot of schools that I keep in touch with," Burge said. "My coach says that more offers should come in with that first one in hand."
Texas A&M is a clear leader at this point. Burge stopped by College Station for a junior day visit and was at the Night of Champions this week for another unofficial trip.
"It was pretty cool," Burge said about the midweek visit. "My top choice is to go play at A&M. It's close by and I've been there a few times. After that, it's TCU, Northwestern, and SMU."
Burge says he plans to hit summer camps and see spring practices at TCU and Texas A&M. If the Aggies offer, the Houston defender says he won't delay a decision.
"If that doesn't happen, I'm just going to be patient and see what happens," he said. "I just want to see how recruiting goes and make sure of all of my choices before a decision is made."
As for this upcoming season, he says that having Luck on the field certainly makes things easier on offense. However, with many seniors-to-be gathering experience last year will help them go deeper into the playoffs.
"Last year, in the playoffs, we had a chance to get younger guys in that are going to play this year," Burge said. "A lot of defensive guys are out there and won't be surprised what it's like."
