Texas DE ready for trip, could commit

Quitman, Texas, defensive end Donnie Sommers said he hopes to make an official visit to Kansas State on September 21, the weekend the Wildcats host USC, and said that he may commit after seeing the campus first hand.
“I’ve seen pictures of their campus and stadium and talked to Coach Snyder and I like what they have to offer,” Sommers said. “I just want to see it in person.”

While it sounds like good news for Wildcat fans, there is one thing that might hold him from making a commitment so soon.
“I may hold off from committing to look at my options though,” Sommers said. “I’m not totally sure of anything yet. I’d like to see if Texas Tech starts showing interest.”
Sommers has friends that live all over West Texas and he likes the idea of living close to them.
“I have friends that are on the debate team at Tech,” Sommers said.
“I also have a bunch of friends at San Angelo State, and that’s only like 2 hours from Lubbock. Distance is something that I am really looking at. K-State is like a 10 and a half hour drive. That’s pretty far.”
Another school that he was looking at was Texas A&M. After taking an unofficial visit and looking at the Aggies roster, things changed.
“I went to the campus and liked it, but then I looked at the players they have at defensive end and linebacker,” Sommers said. “I asked myself, why would I want to go there when they have all those good players.”
Sommers’ team has only played one game so far this season, but he had stats that many players would love over a span of two games.
He had two sacks, four tackles behind the line of scrimmage and 15 total tackles in their season opener.
Sommers is rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals100.com and the 55th best strongside defensive end in the nation.
