Texas DE getting Big 12 attention

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound defensive end Lavar Brown, like his Rosenberg (Texas) Lamar Consolidated teammates, is picking up a lot of early recruiting interest after a strong junior season.
Brown, who racked up all-district and newcomer of the year honors last season, will tell you that he can do even better. The talented young man is working hard in the off-season to do just that and hopefully his first scholarship offer soon.

"I just want to go out as a senior and play like it's my last time to play the game," Brown said about his final high school campaign. "The mail is starting to pick up from schools though."
Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, and Kansas State are the main four on his list at this point. Brown says three of those stick out.
"Texas A&M, Nebraska, and Kansas State are my favorites right now," Brown said. "I really would like to stay in Texas, I know A&M has a good football team and my mom says they are good academic-wise. She would like to see me go there. Nebraska, well my cousin Broderick Thompson went there and I just like them.
"I called the K-State tight end coach (James Jones) and he was a pretty nice guy. He just seemed like he would be a good coach from what we talked about."
Brown has had invites to junior days, but hasn't attended any as of yet. He'll have plenty of time to do that this summer with camp trips.
"I'm not going to rush this process," he said. "I'd rather just wait and get all the offers that I'm going to and make a decision from there."
