Texas CB preparing for busy summer

Aledo, Texas cornerback Broderick Newton doesn’t have a favorite yet but he is starting to receive some offers.
"I have offers from Texas A&M, SMU, and New Mexico St," Newton said. "There are a lot of schools in touch with me. Too many to really keep track of.

"I’m going to go to Texas A&M and SMU's camps. I'm also going to Texas Tech's camp. We’ll see what happens while I’m there. I'll get a chance to see those schools and learn more about them."
Newton won't just use the camps as his workout tools this summer. He also plans on using some 7-on-7 events to tune his skills.
“We’ve got a few 7-on-7 camps and several 7-on-7 tournaments coming up this summer. It will give me a chance to get on the field and work on my game some."
The 5-feet-11, 165-pound Newton, projects himself as a defensive back in college.
"Most of the schools are recruiting me as a defensive back. I know I’m not real big but I’ve got a lot of quicks.”
But on the Aledo High School field, he plays all over the field.
“I play free safety on defense. On offense I started out at wide receiver last year. Coach then switched me to quarterback in the middle of the season. Probably my highlight of the year was starting at quarterback in our playoff games. That was a great experience.”
Newton also excels in track. He ran a 10.4 second 100-meter dash, a 21.1 second 200-meter dash and long jumped 23-feet 6-inches, and placed fifth in the state meet. He also had a fourth place finish with his 4x100-meter relay team.
