RICHMOND, Tx. -- Three-star Foster cornerback Christian Young was the main attraction at a spring practice two weeks ago with a gaggle of coaches on hand to see him in action.

Assistants from Baylor, Indiana, Southern Miss, Utah and others watched him return a pick-six off of a deflected pass in 7-on-7 drills. They saw his size in person and how well he moves it. Now the cat is out of the bag and Young’s has been a name on the rise, as he’s since added offers from Arizona State, Missouri, and Purdue.

“Missouri - man, that’s the SEC,” he said. “That’s a big school and I know the coaching staff is great. I already feel like I have a future there.

“With Arizona State, I love the Pac-12 and with the facilities and culture that they’re building there I feel like it could be live.”

Young had been picking up offers with some frequency prior to the last few weeks, but not many of the Power Five variety. Prior to recent weeks, Houston and Iowa State had been two of the more intriguing choices for Young, but now the Cougars and Cyclones have a little more to contend with.

IN HIS WORDS

On Houston

“I like Houston because that’s been a real hometown favorite,” he said. “One of my friends, Patrick Rosette, goes there and he speaks highly of it. I wanted Houston to be on my list a long time ago since I went to a camp over there last summer.”

On iowa State

“Iowa State coaches are real cool,” he said. “They have a lot of great fans and that’s a big school in the Big 12 and Iowa State is pretty high on my list too. The staff is really cool; Coach (Matt) Campbell, Coach (D.K.) McDonald they’re young, but they’re experienced. They’re going to start something new and bring a lot of recruits in.”

On Purdue, which offered on May 30

“That’s my first Big Ten offer and I like that conference a lot,” he said. “I can’t wait to visit the campus sometime in June.”

RIVALS REACTION

Young is an appealing player to many due to his size and athleticism. He could create a lot of matchup problems lining up anywhere in the secondary, and that’s going to continue to help him pick up offers through the fall. We’re still likely yet to see offers that end up in his final options, but this summer is a big opportunity for those programs that already have.

“I want to visit a lot of other schools,” he said. “I want to get out-of-state to go see some things and new experiences and see if I actually want to go there, so I don’t waste my time with my official visits.”
