Texas athlete gets more attention

Richland, Texas, athlete Elvis Gallegos is one of the fastest-rising players in the state of Texas. So it's no surprise that his list is expanding instead of decreasing.
After an early offer from Alabama, new teams like Oklahoma and LSU have definitely moved into the picture and are now major players.

"I've decided that I'm going to wait it out," Gallegos, who opens his season next week, said.
"Alabama is looking really good to me, but it's a little far away from home. I'd like to stay a little bit closer to home at this point."
Closer? So that has to mean that OU and LSU could be major players if they stepped up with offers.
"My cousin is there at LSU, and a buddy of my father plays golf with coach Saban all the time," Gallegos said. "He called him and coach Saban called him back. He said the word was that everybody thought I was a lock to Alabama.
"So, apparently they backed off in May and this summer because they thought I was going to head there. I told my dad's friend to let them know that I'm still open, and now they have really started to send me a lot of personal mail."
And a September call is probably not too far out of the picture.
"I think Oklahoma is also getting more interested," Gallegos said. "They have been sending me a lot of hand-written notes. It's only three hours away, so that would also be a great option for me."
