Texas AM NIKE results make debut

The College Station NIKE Training Camp did not fall short on quantity or quality of prospects working out at Texas A&M. Among the many participants was a high concentration of talented players from in and around the state of Texas.

Monday marks the release of the NIKE Camp results for the Lone Star event into the player profiles in the Rivals.com database. Several top players made their case for a top ranking including Rivals.com pre-evaluation Rivals100 wide receiver Terrance Toliver, top defender Von Miller, heralded signal-caller Jarrett Lee, and highly touted Oklahoma defensive back Ryan Broyles.

Toliver measured in impressively at 6-foot-4, 185 pounds and recorded a 4.47-second 40-yard dash. He put on a show in the one-on-ones as well. Plus, his measurements alone put him in contention for the top receiver spot in the country.

Quarterbacks also had a nice showing throughout the day. Lee, who claims scholarship offers from a double-digit amount of schools, came in at 6-foot-2.5, 192 pounds. The Brenham, Texas thrower chose not to test, but showed his skills during the one-on-ones and position drills.

The most impressive looking quarterback physically was definitely Allen's Nathan Dick. Dick came in not only impressively throwing the ball, but at the measuring stick. His measurements ended up being 6-foot-4, 200 pounds and put together a 4.43-second shuttle time.

Whether he ends up on offense or defense, Beaumont Westbrook athlete Billy Chavis looked good at 6-foot-3.5, 220 pounds. His days at tight end or defensive end both could end up being successful.

By far one of the biggest surprises was San Antonio Lee's Travis Lewis. Even though his junior year was shortened by injury, Lewis showed why he could be a big running back or linebacker. The 6-foot-2, 213-pounder ran a blazing 4.34-second 40-yard dash, a 4.25-second shuttle, and a 34.4-inch vertical leap. Lewis definitely helped his stock more than any other prospect at the camp.

Offensive and defensive lineman also showed their stuff and ended up with impressive results. Cedar Hill's John Jones, Lancaster's Anthony Morgan, and Jeremiah Hatch were three top offensive lineman that measured in very well.

Defensive backs Jamell Fleming, like Broyles, immediately increased his offer count after the camp. Both prospects came in just under 6-foot and both ran in the 4.5-second range.

As is usually the case with the Lone Star state, the class of 2008 gave everyone a sneak peak at what to expect in the next recruiting class with an early showing.

Gilmer (Texas) High School offensive lineman David Snow showed up at the camp as only a junior-to-be, but looked extremely impressive. Along with Paris, Texas offensive tackle Stephen Good, both should be heavily offered come first day of their junior year this fall.

Other 2008 prospects who showed well included Waco, Texas defensive back Victor Johnson and Southlake Carroll running back Tre Newton who is already standing at 5-foot-11.5, 194 pounds.
