Texas 7-on-7 Championships: Top performers

Recruiting wrap: Tucker has offers from Arkansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, TCU and Utah, and he is keeping an open mind.
Performance: Tucker showed all he needed when he stretched out for an interception against Mesquite Horn. The play showed decisiveness, athleticism and football intelligence. He would go on to pick off three passes during the Mesquite Horn game and he had five in the first two games of pool play. His explosive ability and length allow him to cover a lot of ground and make a lot of plays. He did not disappoint.

CB
Grayland Arnold
Kountze, Texas
Recruiting wrap: Arnold is committed to Baylor, but Texas and Nebraska continue to strongly pursue.
Performance: Arnold did a little bit of everything for Kountze. He played some quarterback, some receiver, and he was an INT waiting to happen on defense. His explosive playmaking stole the show on Day 1. In the secondary, he was able to bait quarterbacks and then jump routes to make plays. He grabbed batted balls and he turned INTs into TDs. On offense, he showed off a big arm and at receiver his quick feet and explosive burst were on full display.

APB
J.K. Dobbins (2017)
LaGrange, Texas
Recruiting wrap: Dobbins has a top four of Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma and TCU, and he would like to visit each of his top four as well as Arizona State before the start of the season.
Performance: Dobbins was a jack-of-all-trades for LaGrange. He threw touchdown passes at quarterback, he caught them as he shook off double- and triple-coverage. He then flipped over to defense and grabbed a few interceptions for good measure. It is the kind of atmosphere athletes such as Dobbins is expected to thrive and he was exceptional. His speed and quickness kept everyone on both sides of the ball off balance.

DQB
Chris Robison (2017)
Mesquite (Texas) Horn
Recruiting wrap: Robison has committed to Oklahoma.
Performance: It was not a flawless performance, but there was plenty to like about what Robison did on Friday. The ball popped out of his hand with the flick of his wrist. He was decisive and he showed the ability to make all the throws. He did get in trouble when he tried to force a few things in an effort to spark a comeback, but he stayed composed and he kept a cool head regardless of the situation.

WDE
Brandon Bowen
Trophy Club (Texas) Byron Nelson
Recruiting wrap: Bowen says Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and TCU are recruiting him the hardest and he plans to announce his decision before the season.
Performance: Bowen is listed as a defensive end, but he spent his time as a big-play threat on offense for Byron Nelson. They do not get much bigger and more athletic than the 6-5, 230-pound pass catcher and he was a mismatch for every defender he faced. It was not just his sheer size. His explosiveness and big hands proved to be too much for most. Playing receiver is nothing new for Bowen and he certainly looked experienced while running routes and winning jump balls.

WR
Reggie Hemphill
Manvel, Texas
Recruiting wrap: Hemphill is committed to Texas.
Performance: When in need of a big play, Hemphill always seemed to find an open spot or slip past his defender. He was sure-handed and he ran crisp routes. His footwork and quickness allowed him to shake defenders. His body control and field awareness also made him quite the weapon throughout the day as he recorded some acrobatic receptions.
8
ILB
DeMarco Boyd
Gilmer, Texas
Recruiting wrap: Boyd is committed to Texas.
Performance: On Thursday, Boyd was one of the biggest performers of the small school tournament and he was also one of the most versatile. He was a huge weapon out of the backfield for the Gilmer Buckeyes. His hands and ability to make quick and smooth adjustments were quick to catch attention. He also showed a physical side as he took a swing pass and almost ran over some poor guy early in competition.
9
ATH
D'Eriq King
Manvel, Texas
Recruiting wrap: King is committed to TCU.
Performance: At 5-foot-10, King's size is the biggest knock. However, he is definitely a playmaker at the quarterback position. During the season he is able to use his legs to create and escape but he has shown he can sling the ball around the yard as well as any quarterback. He put some very nice velocity on the ball and threw with accuracy throughout the day.

ATH
Quandree White (2018)
College Station, Texas
Recruiting wrap: White is receiving early attention from Texas Tech and Texas A&M.
Performance: White may be young, but that did not stop him from being one of the biggest playmakers we saw. He's another small (5-10, 165), quick standout who showed very strong on both sides of the ball. He grabbed interceptions and touchdowns, showed great quickness and speed, and helped spur his team to a comeback win over Cedar Hill in the first game of pool play.
11
PQB
Ty Brock (2017)
College Station, Texas
Recruiting wrap: Brock currently holds scholarship offers from Houston and McNeese State.
Performance: Brock has some serious potential as he continues to develop and he showed plenty of poise and accuracy. He spun the ball very well and showed some nice touch when it was needed. He was most impressive rolling out of the pocket and making throws on the run. He was at ease on the run and put the ball right where it needed to be for his receiver to make a play.
12
OLB
Anthony Hines (2017)
Plano (Texas) East
Recruiting wrap: Hines holds offers from more than 70 programs and is keeping an open mind.
Performance: Working inside Hines showed some impressive ability. He was not about to let receivers go untouched across the middle of the field and played with strong technique and responsibility. He was able to body up to opponents when needed as well as help other defenders.
13
WR
K.D. Nixon (2017)
DeSoto, Texas
Recruiting wrap: Nixon has a top four of Baylor, Oregon, Ohio State and TCU.
Performance: Nixon's speed and quickness are very well known. He is one of the more explosive prospects in the state and is also accomplished on the track. His explosive burst and quick feet allowed him to keep defenders off balance while his speed made him a deep threat target.
14
DQB
Tristen Wallace
DeSoto, Texas
Recruiting wrap: Wallace is committed to Ohio State.
Performance: Wallace has taken some heat for his throwing motion, but he did not have many problems getting the ball to his playmakers. Without the ability to use his legs, Wallace was able to find his rhythm in the short game as well as hit guys with some nice passes deep downfield.
15
DQB
Bowman Sells
Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy
Recruiting wrap: Sells is committed to Houston.
Performance: Sells definitely looked the part. He has some very good size and his passes had plenty of velocity. The lefty is not a statue in the pocket and he does a very good job of making quick decisions, and getting the ball in the hands of a receiver so they can make a play after the catch.
