He has offers from Texas A&M, Arizona, Purdue, Baylor, Southern Methodist, Texas Christian, Tulane and Texas.
He has eliminated Nebraska, Tennessee, Michigan State, Iowa, Missouri, UCLA and West Virginia from serious contention. He has no official visits set up yet and said, "I'll make my decision after taking all five visits, which will put the decision date sometime in December or January probably."
If he had to make his official visits, they would be to the following (his comments follow - all *new* quotes):
Texas - "They are the favorite out of the bunch and they have a good staff and I feel comfortable there."
Notre Dame – "It's a smaller school in size and one of the top football programs in the nation and the history of the school is great."
Texas A&M – "They have a good staff, pride in their football program and the school itself has a lot of pride, as well as a good atmosphere for a student athlete."
Purdue - "They have a nice recruiter, a winning program and a lot of Texas guys on their roster, so I wouldn't be alone up there. I would actually know some of the other players from the area."
Arizona - "The recruiter and they play man coverage, which is what I like to play. They are also graduating a lot of their defensive backs, so I could have a fair shot at playing early."
"I was most impressed with the Arizona coach, because of his personality and honesty. He was more like a father than a recruiter. He didn't just preach Arizona. He discussed what would be best for me, if that meant going somewhere else than that was what I should do he said. That really impressed me," Melton said.
