Texan want to play in the Midwest
Sugar Land (Texas) Austin outside linebacker Kevin Washington has been in Texas for all of his 17 years, so he figures it’s time for a change. That chance could land him in Chicago, South Bend, Ind., or Madison, Wis.
Notre Dame, Northwestern and Wisconsin are the top three teams for Washington, an outside linebacker that is 6-foot and 213 pounds, after he took a whirlwind summer camp tour that included visits to other schools like Houston and Baylor.

“I don’t know why I really want to leave Texas,” Washington, an all-district pick as a junior, said. “It’s nothing against Texas football but I’ve been here for 17 years, and I’m looking for new stuff. I’m going to go where I can find that new stuff at.”
Washington really feels good about each of the three teams on the top of his list.
“I love Notre Dame’s campus, and I enjoyed talking to the coaches,” he said. “I really liked how they talked about getting Notre Dame back to where Notre Dame is supposed to be. My mom was also sold on the academics there.”
She was also sold on the academics at Northwestern. Washington liked a few different things.
“I liked the campus,” he said. “It is right there on the lake, and it’s not too big where I would get lost. I really liked the coaches, too. Of the schools, I felt most at home at Notre Dame and Northwestern.”
Wisconsin was a different feel, he said, but that’s a good thing.
“You could tell right away that it was a football town,” Washington said. “They pack the stadium and I like what improvements they’re making to it. They’re football and they know it. I am being recruited by Rob Ianello, and I really enjoy talking to him. I could talk football with him for hours.”
Washington now has a tough choice to make. With offers from each of those three schools, along with an offer from Houston, he must decide on what his future holds. He wants to have this decision out of the way shortly – before school starts – so he can focus on his senior season.
