Terrapins Get RB Commitment

The Maryland Terrapins might have a mascot who is slow, but they just landed a pretty fast running back.
“I committed to Maryland this morning,” said Teaneck, N.J. running back Lance Ball. “I really like the area, school and coaches. I think I can play early there as well.”

Ball, a 5-foot-9, 221-pound tailback in a fullback’s body, ran a 4.4-second 40-yard dash at the Penn State NIKE Camp in April. Maryland sees quite a bit of similarities between Ball and a former star.
“They said I remind them of Lamont Jordan and that I’ll be used like him,” said Ball. “Hopefully the All-America status will follow like it did for him.”
Ball chose Maryland over offers from Boston College and Syracuse and serious interest from Notre Dame and Georgia.
“I just felt really comfortable when I was down there last weekend,” he said of his June 9 visit. “I almost committed on the spot, but I decided to think it over. My thoughts were just as strong a week later.”
As a junior, Ball carried the ball 170 times for 1,591 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also had eight receptions for 116 yards and ran a kickoff back 80 yards for another score.
