Terps add R250 OL Merritt

D.J Durkin has landed his first commitment since taking over as Maryland's new head coach. Rivals250 offensive lineman Richard Merritt announced his commitment to the Terps on Twitter. The Washington (D.C.) Archbishop Carroll standout is also very close with new Maryland defensive backs coach Aazaar Abdul-Rahim.

I want to thank everybody that recruited me doing this process..but I will be officially committing to the university of Maryland! #TERP- Richard Merritt (@_58thegreat) December 18, 2015
WHAT'S NEXT?: At this point Merritt will turn to recruiting other highly rated prospects in the Washington D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area along with trying to keep Rivals100 quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr. committed to Maryland.
RIVALS' REACTION: Merritt's interest in Maryland began to rise once D.J. Durkin hired Aazaar Abdul-Rahim. Merritt played for Abdul-Rahim at Washington (D.C.) Friendship Collegiate Academy. That pre-existing relationship clearly worked in Maryland's favor.
