Terps add local safety

Baltimore (Md.) Archbishop Curley safety Eric Franklin wrapped up his recruitment yesterday. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder decided to stay home at Maryland over offers from Akron and Richmond.
"I talked to Coach Cosh yesterday, I spent a lot of time with him and met with Coach Friedgen down on my visit," he said. "I committed and they were really excited about it. They can't wait to get me in there and want me to come down for an official visit in the winter."

What made Frankling select the Terps?
"It's a good school. I want to study engineering and their program is really good," he said. "The football team is good and it's not far from my house. I can get back home if I need to. I really like Coach Cosh and the staff. They are nice guys and I met a few of the players too. They gave me a sense of the program and coaches. They are people I want to be around."
Obviously the coaches played a big factor. Franklin touched on that more.
"They are always really friendly guys," he said. "We talked to one of the players and I trust Coach Friedgen. Everyone said everything about him is true and I feel that trust. He's a real nice guy and I'm just happy the recruiting process is over so I can focus on other things including my senior season."
Franklin posted 99 tackles, six interceptions and nine deflections as a junior. He added 11 receptions and 257-yards receiving and three touchdowns on offense on his way to all-conference and all-city honors.
He is also a talented track athlete who went undefeated in the 110 hurdles. He earned honorable mention all-state honors there.
