Tennessee RB talks top five

Three-star Cleveland (Tenn.) running back Levonte Barber is working with a top five that appears to be in the running for his official visits.
“I only have one official visit I’m sure of right now, and that’s Notre Dame,” he said. “But the other ones I’m looking at pretty close are Wake Forest, North Carolina, UT and South Carolina.”

Barber (6-0, 195, 4.45) said he doesn’t have a date scheduled to visit the Fighting Irish, but has given Ty Willingham’s staff notice that he’ll be coming. He’s still awaiting scholarship offers from Notre Dame and Tennessee.
“But Tennessee’s showing more and more interest about every week,” he said. “They probably call more than anybody. They’d be up there high on my list if they offered.”
Wake Forest is another school that’s come on in recent weeks, Barber said. “I like them a lot. They’ve got a real nice campus and everything. And their program is starting to be real competitive. I like their offensive style. It would really fit me.”
South Carolina was Barber’s co-leader the last time we spoke with him, and the Gamecocks are still in good position.
“They look real good,” he said. “I like coach Holtz. They have a first class coach and school.”
Regarding North Carolina, he said he didn’t know as much about the Tar Heels as the other schools on his list, but has been attracted by the coaches.
“They’re real cool when they call me,” he said. “I know it’s a nice school. I’d like to go check it out.”
Barber has yet to make any unofficial visits this season. He says his first may come this weekend as Tennessee takes on Georgia in Knoxville.
As a junior, Barber rushed for 1,115 yards and 13 touchdowns. He’s well on track to eclipse those figures as a senior, having rushed for 800 yards and 10 touchdowns through six games. In Friday’s game, he rushed for 191 yards and three scores for Tennessee’s fifth-ranked team in 4A.
Academically, Barber carries a 3.1 GPA and has scored a 17 on the ACT. He’s taking the test again in hopes of reaching a higher score.
