Tennessee RB/S looking at SEC

Bells (Tenn.) running back/safety Earnest Williams is off to a big start in his senior season at Crockett County.
“I had 244 yards and three touchdowns last week in our third game,” he said. “We’re 3-0 now. I’m not sure exactly what the yards were in the first two games, but I’ve got three other touchdowns, too. I have six so far.”

Williams (6-0, 186, 4.5) is a dynamic two-way player who had 1,895 yards as a running back and 127 tackles as a hard-hitting safety last season. He says most of the schools that have been recruiting him project him at safety.
“They like the way I run and the way I come up and hit people,” he said. “I play aggressive. I like to mix things up. Most of the coaches I talk to say that’s what they’re looking for in their safeties.”
Schools who have called Williams this month include Auburn, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Memphis, Arkansas and Arkansas State. He has offers from Auburn, Ole Miss, Arkansas and Arkansas State.
“Ole Miss is recruiting me the hardest,” he said. “They say I could come in and help them a lot at safety. I like their coaches, too. They seem like real good people to play for.
“Tennessee and Auburn are good, too. I like their defensive style. I’d like to play in the SEC.”
Williams attended the Volunteers’ game against Fresno State earlier this season. He has an unofficial visit planned for Oct. 4 when Auburn plays host to Tennessee. He’d also like to see a game at Ole Miss as well.
Academically, he maintains a 2.8 GPA and will take the ACT in October.
