Tennessee QB scheduling visits

Three-star Memphis (Tenn.) Melrose quarterback Antonio Heffner has scheduled his first two official visits and is narrowing the field down for the remaining trips.
“I’m going up to Louisville on Jan. 9, and on Jan. 16 I’ll be going down to South Carolina,” he said. “I’m thinking about setting up Kentucky for Jan. 23, and then maybe Maryland sometime. I’m not sure about the date, though.”

Heffner (6-3, 180, 4.5) also has offers from LSU, Ole Miss, Arkansas and North Carolina. He thought there was an offer on the table from Tennessee earlier this season, but says he hasn’t heard from the Vols “in a long time.”
Asked if there’s a leader at this point, he said: “No. I don’t have a favorite. I don’t want to single anyone out until I take my visits.”
Maryland was the early leader, but he says Louisville, South Carolina and Kentucky have all made a hard push in recent weeks.
Heffner said the key factor in his decision will be which program has the best situation at quarterback and “is honest about keeping me there and not moving me to another position.”
As a senior, he led Melrose to an 11-2 record while passing for more than 1,260 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also rushed for five scores. Those numbers were down a bit from his junior season, but Melrose had two 1,000-yard rushers this season in Joseph Doss and Josh Hinds, who combined for more than 40 touchdowns.
Academically, he maintains a 2.8 GPA and is waiting for his new test scores.
