Patrick Willis has picked up his
first four scholarship offers and is in the process of scheduling official
visits.
"I have one visit so far," said the Bruceton Central
running back/linebacker. "I'll be going to Ole Miss on Jan. 10. I'm also
planning to go to Memphis and Mississippi State in January, but I'm not sure
about the dates yet."
Willis said those three teams are currently at the top
of his short list. Tennessee had been a longtime favorite, but he said the
Volunteers quit pursuing him when it was unsure he'd be academically eligible or
not. But he recently received his qualifying test scores, and is focusing on the
teams who have not wavered in their recruitment.
"Ole Miss, Memphis and Mississippi State hung in there
with me and gave me scholarship offers," he said. "They let me know they had
faith in me and stuck with me the whole time. That's why I've given them the
edge right now.
"Ole Miss is probably on top. I like their coaches and I
feel real comfortable around their players and the campus and everything. But
Mississippi State has impressed me, too. I'm still talking to them a lot."
Arkansas State has also offered Willis.
Recent visitors to the Willis home have included the
Rebels' Mike MacIntyre and the Bulldogs' Rockey Felker.
Willis (6-2, 220, 4.6) rushed for more than 2,000 yards
and recorded 133 tackles, 10 sacks and six interceptions as a senior at Bruceton
Central. He was a finalist for the "Mr. Football" award.
