Telfort spurns Miami for Gators

Kadeem Telfort's commitment to Miami survived more than four months before things changed suddenly on Tuesday. With a couple phone calls, the four-star offensive lineman was no longer a member of the Hurricanes' 2017 class. Instead, Telfort's services are now pledged to Florida.

And so goes the recruiting rotation of the recruiting world.
In this case, a campus visit sealed the deal on Telfort's commitment flip from Miami to the Gators. There were a number of other factors at work as well, though.
"It was because of the camp," Telfort said of his decision. "When I went there, the environment was cool. Coach Randy Shannon at Florida, he also went to Miami and he's there at UF now. He can watch over me up there and make sure I do everything right. I also have another teammate committed up there, Vosean Joseph, he helped talk me into flipping over too."
Telfort informed the Florida coaches of his decision in advance of making his choice public. The reaction for the Gators' recruiting office is what one would expect from a coaching staff landing an important in-state prospect. Miami's loss, in this case, seems to be Florida's gain.
"The coaches were happy," Telfort said. "They were telling me how great it was because they had been wanting me at Florida."
According to Telfort, his role as a Gator will evolve as he spends time on the school's campus. He may not arrive on campus playing the same position he will find himself in as a junior or senior. The plan on that front is by no means set in stone.
"They say they want to start me playing right tackle early in my career when I get there as a freshman," Telfort said. "They want to maybe move me over to left tackle as I move up in my years of college."
A standout offensive lineman at Miami's Norland High School, Telfort plans to visit Alabama, South Carolina and N.C. State in the coming months. He expects his commitment to the Gators to stick, of course, but he will continually take visits and inspect other college options
