Tech, Houston first to call Blount

One of the best small school athletes in Texas resides in Garrison, Texas, and his name is Gerron Blount. The 5-foot-10, 171-pounder was named the class 2A defensive player of the year as a junior and he’s on track to repeat the performance this year by helping his team off to a 3-0 start.
“I’m playing both ways,” Blount said. “I’m at running back, receiver, quarterback, free safety, and I’m even playing some linebacker when I play against spread teams. I’m doing damage on both sides of the ball.

“Last game, I had two rushing touchdowns, passed for one and had two interceptions. We have a huge game this week coming up against Paul Pewitt. It’s our homecoming game.”
Blount is still searching for a home on the recruiting front. He does not have a scholarship offer at this point, but he has talked to coaches from Texas Tech and Houston.
“I’ve missed some other calls too,” Blount said. “The coaches at Houston and Tech said they want my first few games on tape. I know they’re going to like it, and I’m going to get an offer from one of those guys. I’ve been playing really well.”
As a junior, Blount rushed for 1,200 yards and had 105 tackles and 13 interceptions.
