Tech Gets QB Commitment

The Virginia Tech Hokies might have found some good competition for incoming freshman quarterback Marcus Vick with their third commitment of the year.
"Courtney committed to Virginia Tech this weekend," said Miami (Fla.) Central head coach Tony Saunders of his quarterback Courtney Denson. "He had around eight offers including one from Florida State, but the tradition of black quarterbacks at Virginia Tech and the offense they run sold him on the Hokies."

Denson, a 6-foot-1, 185-pounder who was clocked by his coach at 4.4-seconds in the 40-yard dash, is a dual-threat quarterback who is as comfortable tucking the ball and running as he is throwing in or out of the pocket. The offense that Central utilizes is a spread offense with three and four wideouts, something Tech plans to use more than ever this season and beyond.
"FSU wanted him as an athlete and so did most of the others," said Saunders. "He really wanted to play quarterback and Tech showed that confidence in him."
In addition to Florida State, schools like NC State, Auburn and Central Florida offered Denson as an athlete. He plays free safety on defense and could project as a wide receiver in college if needed.
"He threw for more than 2,000 yards last season with around 23 touchdowns," said Saunders. "He also ran for around 400. Teams had to gameplan against him and they still couldn't stop him. He has a strong arm, very quick feet and he's hard to bring down. Virginia Tech is getting a very good player."
