Top-ranked player: RB Joe Mixon. Mixon announced for
Oklahoma at the Army All-American game and sat out the 2014 season due to a
suspension. As a freshman in 2015, he is the second leading rusher for the
Sooners behind Samaje Perine and is averaging a team high 6.8 yards a
carry. He also has 25 receptions for 345 yards and four touchdowns.
Five-stars: Mixon is the only former five-star prospect on
Oklahoma's roster.
Highest-ranked position group: Offensive Line. Ty Darlington was the highest-ranking offensive lineman upon arriving at
Oklahoma, and now the former Rivals250 standout is the team's starting center.
Starting right tackle Dru Samia was also a four-star and Orlando Brown arrived in Norman with a 5.7,
three-star ranking. The group also includes former four-star standouts Jamal Danley,
Alex Dalton, Bobby Evans, Cody Ford and Kenyon Frison.
Top states the talent comes from: No. 1 Texas - 2,830, No. 2 Oklahoma - 1,643, No. 3 California - 786
Class of 2016 recruiting ranking: No. 41 overall, 1,734
recruiting points, 3.15 average star ranking
Top target: Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West LB Caleb Kelly. Kelly is not planning to announce a decision until Signing Day, but
Oklahoma and Michigan appear to be the favorites right now.
Out-of-state recruiting battlegrounds
These states may not have a home team in the fight, but there are plenty of
big-time players on the rosters of those who are.
TEXAS -- 4,179 total recruiting points on the rosters (Clemson
0, Alabama 1,075; Michigan State 274; Oklahoma 2,458)
Alabama and Oklahoma have hit the Lone Star State hard over the last few years
and the teams' rosters include several standout Texans. Former five-star A'Shawn
Robinson leads the Crimson Tide's Texas group and Rivals250 running back Samaje
Perine pushes the Sooners group. All of Michigan State's Texans arrived in the
2015 class with Rivals250 defensive back Josh Butler leading the way.
FLORIDA -- 3,416 total recruiting points on the rosters
(Clemson 1,699; Alabama 910; Michigan State 483; Oklahoma 324)
Florida has been a key recruiting ground for both Clemson and Alabama with
Michigan State and Oklahoma also active in the area. Deon Cain, Mackensie
Alexander and Artavis Scott give the Tigers a very strong group, while
Derrick Henry and Calvin Ridley lead the way for the Crimson Tide.
Running back Madre London is the top Floridian Spartan and Eric Striker is a force off the edge for the Sooner defense.
GEORGIA -- 2,705 total recruiting points on the rosters
(Clemson 1,375; Alabama 1,120; Michigan State 120; Oklahoma 90)
Like Florida, Clemson and Alabama make sure Georgia prospects know the way to
their campus. Clemson has a strong Georgia connection with quarterback Deshaun
Watson being protected by tackle Mitch Hyatt and former three-star
Wayne Gallman leading the Tiger ground attack. Defensive back
Geno Matias-Smith leads the way for Alabama in the peach
state. Starting tackle Orlando Brown in the only Georgian on the
Sooners' roster.
OHIO -- 2,458 total recruiting points on the rosters (Clemson
0; Alabama 180; Michigan State 2,081; Oklahoma 197)
Not surprisingly, Ohio's greatest representation will come from Big Ten champ Michigan State.
Running back Larry Scott has already made a huge impact on the Spartan
offense with his most recent contribution being the game-winning score in the
Big Ten title game. Ohio's presence will also be felt on Oklahoma and Alabama.
Offensive lineman Ryan Kelly starts at center for the Tide while
Alex Delton is a back-up offensive lineman for the Sooners.
