TE Harris talks first offer

Montgomery (Ala.) St. James tight end Jalen Harris recently picked up his first offer from Southern Miss and is hearing from a couple of BCS programs.
The jumbo tight end is a few pounds away from a possible position change to offensive tackle. A tackle with excellent feet and speed are heavily regarded, but for now Harris is focused on catching passes and becoming a better blocker.

How did he feel when he landed the offer from the Golden Eagles?
"I felt great after that. My parents were really happy," replied Harris. "It was like a big weight was lifted off my shoulders. I was finally happy to get that first offer under my belt. Hopefully I can get a lot more."
Southern Miss has done a good job staying in contact with Harris and he has a good relationship with his recruiting coach John Wozniak.
"Me and him have a good relationship. We talk almost every other day," stated Harris. "We met at the Southern Miss camp over at Alabama State. He has come by my school a couple of times. We just clicked as soon as we met."
This summer he has checked out Auburn, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt and he feels any one of the three could be close to offering based on his feedback from the coaches.
He will wrap up the summer visits with trips to Alabama and Georgia for 'Dawg Night.
Keep an eye on Vandy during his recruitment. His former teammate C.J. Duncan signed with the 'Dores a year ago. He is very familiar with coach [George] Barlow and coach [Charles] Bankins from their stops by St. James last season.
The nearby War Eagles are very much in the picture. He talks with all of the coaches and is comfortable with their staff.
He is hoping Auburn and Vanderbilt come through with offers. However, he is happy with his Southern Miss offer, He said, "I'm just blessed with any offer that any school gives me."
