FORT WORTH, Texas – Though he wasn't one of the biggest running backs in attendance, Sherman, Texas back Waymon James showed last weekend at the TCU Nike Camp why he is so highly coveted among college coaches.
James had a strong showing at the camp due to his great quickness and versatility out of the backfield.
"I already knew I was coming down here," James said after the camp. "I didn't want to show off in front of the coaches. I just wanted to be competitive."

James was more than competitive, and was named as one of the top performers in the camp's Hot 11. Following the camp, James discussed the aspects of his game that he plans to address in the coming months.
"I'm just trying to get my strength up, stay fit, keep my balance up and stay on my feet," he said. "[I need to work on] keeping my feet under me and cutting and stuff."
At this point in the process, James has several major offers led by Nebraska, Texas Tech and Georgia Tech among others. However one school is sticking out early on. Who leads for the versatile back?
"TCU is (my leader)," he said. "It's close to home. LT is my favorite running back and he went there. I don't know if I want to commit yet. I want to visit the campus and the coaches. I want to do that as soon as I can."
With TCU currently in the lead, the Horned Frogs have to feel good about an early commitment. After already securing commitments from talented Texas standouts such as Casey Pachall and Jurrell Thompson early in the process. James may be a player that wants to join the movement as well.
"I'm trying to make a decision early," he said. "I've been talking to my coaches about it. They thought it was probably best to make a decision early so that's what I'm going to do."
