After decommitting from TCU in early February, North Mesquite (Texas) four-star wide receiver Cordale Russell found his way back to the Horned Frogs on Saturday evening after his re-commitment to Sonny Dykes' squad.

Russell, who was initially committed to Dykes when he was at SMU, flipped his commitment from the Mustangs to TCU almost immediately following Dykes' arrival in Fort Worth, but decided to re-open his recruitment heading into the spring.

"The reason I left TCU first, I just wanted to see if there was something out there that could put me in the best situation," Russell said. "Then it just hit me and my family. It's not too far from home and I like the environment."

Fellow Big 12 schools Baylor and Texas Tech emerged as legitimate contenders during the spring as the Bears were steadfast in their pursuit following a Big 12 Championship and the Red Raiders were solid in selling the vision of Joey McGuire and wide receivers coach and Dallas native Emmett Jones.

"My recruitment had started opening up, a few more offers had come in," he said. "I had visited Baylor and Texas Tech again, but it just felt like TCU was the best fit for me and my family."

Russell becomes the fourth commit in TCU's 2023 class, joining Melissa (Texas) three-star offensive tackle Trevor Goosby, Denton (Texas) Ryan three-star wide receiver Jordyn Bailey and Gilmer (Texas) three-star wide receiver Rohan Fluellen. Russell becomes the first four-star commit in the class for the Horned Frogs.

At 6-foot-3, 208 pounds, Russell is the No. 231 ranked recruit in the country for the class of 2023, according to Rivals. He is the No. 34 ranked wide receiver and the No. 45 recruit from the state of Texas.
