Tallahassee safety is one to watch

A name to watch in Tallahassee this football season is that of Gerod Condry, a safety from Lawton Chiles High School. The 6-foot-2, 195 pound athlete with 4.5 speed is gaining attention from colleges.

Condry received several phone calls during May and continues to get daily mail from a host of schools.
"I've been getting mail and I got some phone calls," Condry said. "I got phone calls from UCF, Connecticut, Alabama, and Cincinnati. I'm getting mail from Alabama, UAB, Cincinnati, Connecticut, and others. There's a lot of schools."
Gerod Condry also has been hearing through the mail from Clemson, Iowa, Northwestern, Duke, Iowa State, and Wake Forest. He is waiting for his first scholarship offer.
Condry plays the safety position in high school and that's where he says colleges are recruiting him to play. Condry, who is 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, runs the forty-yard dash in 4.5 seconds. Last season for Chiles High School he recorded 60 tackles and one interception. Gerod went to one camp this summer.
"I went to a football camp at Alabama but I was kind of half-speed because I hurt my hamstring," Condry said.
Condry indicated he grew up a University of Miami fan so the 'Canes would be his favorite school, followed by Florida State and Florida. He listed Clemson and Georgia to round out his top five.
"I want to like the coaches, the graduation rate, and I kind of want to stay close to home but it doesn't really matter," Condry said when asked what factors he will look at when choosing a school.
Gerod said his favorite football player is former San Francisco 49er and Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott. Condry is fully qualified with a 3.2 grade point average, a 24 ACT score, and a 1050 on the SAT.
