THE STORYLINE

One of the most interesting recruiting storylines nationally that will play itself out in the coming years is the battle between Texas and Texas A&M for top in-state talent.

One of those contests is playing out in this class as four-star wide receiver Troy Omeire recently cut his list to Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama and LSU. However, it sure looks like the Longhorns and the Aggies are the frontrunners.

The Sugar Land (Texas) Fort Bend Austin standout has talked highly about both Texas and Texas A&M. He will be one of those major battleground recruits from the state this recruiting cycle.

Texas A&M has already gotten a jump on in-state wide receiver recruiting by landing a commitment from four-star Demond Demas. Next at the position in Texas is Omeire and if the Aggies could land the top two receivers in the state, that would be a huge statement. But Texas is right there as well and the Longhorns have done a great job developing big receivers.

In a battle that essentially could come down to Texas and Texas A&M, which program has the most riding on Omeire’s pledge?

FIRST TAKE: SAM SPIEGELMAN, TEXAS & LOUISIANA ANALYST

"Texas A&M already has Demas on board, but with what Jimbo Fisher wants to do on offense, getting Omeire would be another huge pickup. There are only a handful of these uniquely-gifted athletes in the state of Texas and Omeire is toward the top of the list.

"A&M has been considered the leader at different junctures and Texas has gained the most ground as of late. A&M is only after a couple receivers in this 2020 class and it would hit the lottery pairing Omeire with Demas.

"Texas, meanwhile, is coming off a 2019 cycle with Bru McCoy and then in good spots with Quentin Johnston and several other receivers in the state and nationwide, so I say the pressure is on A&M here."

SECOND TAKE: MIKE FARRELL, NATIONAL RECRUITING DIRECTOR

“With Demas already being in the Texas A&M class, it’s really important for Texas to land this kid. He’s one of the more talented receivers in the state. They like big receivers in Austin and they’ve done a good job developing and utilizing them. They don’t have any pure wide receivers in this class so they need some weapons for Hudson Card.

“It’s more important for Texas simply because Texas A&M already has a superstar in this class.”
