THE SITUATION

The 2018 NFL Draft quarterback class is absolutely loaded and it’s expected that UCLA’s Josh Rosen could be the first one off the board.

But can USC’s Sam Darnold, or Wyoming’s Josh Allen or even Louisville’s Lamar Jackson or Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield jump Rosen and be the first quarterback drafted in a class that’s filled with all kinds of personalities and varied talents?

Rosen, the only former five-star prospect in the bunch, is arguably the most natural pocket passer but will he interview well? Will NFL team executives be turned off by some of his answers or will he even tell the Cleveland Browns not to draft him, in a move not seen since Eli Manning?

Darnold is an intriguing prospect because he has all the tools to be a special NFL franchise quarterback, but his propensity for turnovers could be concerning. Allen has a huge arm but has not played on big stages - but neither did Carson Wentz and he looks to be the future of the Philadelphia Eagles franchise.

Jackson could be the most debated quarterback in this draft. He is phenomenally athletic and put up huge numbers at Louisville but is his accuracy, especially on the deep ball, a major concern? And how much can a franchise QB run in today’s NFL? Mayfield will be up there as well in terms of hotly debated. Will his size and off-field issues be a concern or will teams take a shot on someone who is highly competitive and highly skilled?

Rosen seems to the No. 1 quarterback available in this draft. There is no one really questioning his on-field ability. So will he be drafted higher than any other player at his position or can Darnold, Allen or even someone else slip ahead of him leading up to draft day?

FIRST TAKE - EDWARD LEWIS, BRUINSPORTSREPORT.COM

"Rosen is the purest thrower that I've seen in either high school or college in the last half decade or so. Once teams see that for themselves at the combine and Pro Days, they'll quickly forget all this overhyped nonsense about him not being dedicated to the game. Having a hot tub in his dorm, wearing an anti-Trump hat and at times being overly honest really created this false narrative about him. But once teams get the chance to interview him, and see just how tremendous of a passer he really is, I'd expect him to be the No. 1 overall pick."

SECOND TAKE - MIKE FARRELL, RIVALS.COM

“You have to go with Rosen. The only question you have is not the skills at the combine, it’s the interviews at the combine. I don’t even know if they’ll throw at the combine. He’ll have to go through the interview process and he’s not a kid who keeps his mouth shut about anything.

“Some of the answers could scare some teams away. I don’t think Darnold is a guy I’d feel comfortable picking No. 1 with all the turnovers. Mayfield is talented despite the fact that he’s not tall. He’s a guy I would consider as a potential franchise quarterback, but the off-field stuff makes you think twice. Allen is a guy I’m not sold on.

“There’s no way I could see someone taking Lamar Jackson No. 1. I know Michael Vick went No. 1, but Jackson is just not that guy. If it’s going to be a quarterback right now. My pick would be Rosen.”
