Take Two: Hot seat impacts recruiting

UCLA went to Texas last weekend and won. USC went to Boston College last weekend
and lost.
The Florida State-Clemson matchup is always one of the most anticipated games in
college football and it puts recruiting on center stage since the Tigers do such
a phenomenal job going into the state of Florida and picking off top talent.
Deon Cain is one of five Clemson
commits from Florida.
Clemson has already received commitments from five-star
Ray-Ray McCloud III and 6.0 four-star receiver Deon Cain along with two
other four-stars and a three-star from the state. An upset win in Tallahassee
could go a long way in firming up those commitments and possibly getting more.
For Florida State, another monster win over Clemson, like last season's
51-14 shellacking, could maybe change some minds. If the Seminoles play for
another national title, if they have another phenomenal season they could make a
run at some of those prospects that decided to pick Clemson, or
Florida, or whoever.
Florida State really has a chance to make another statement Saturday to
uncommitted prospects and even those committed to other schools -- especially
Clemson: Why go anywhere else when all we do is destroy teams here?
"This is a huge rivalry, but also a significant advantage in recruiting. A win
in general is big in this series, but a win by a large margin shows not only the
type of players FSU gets, but also what they do with the players once they
arrive at Florida State. That's a big thing with recruits in seeing players get
on the field early as freshmen and seeing how much they have progressed while
being there. Clearly, sending a message with a big win will also have an effect
on those committed to Clemson, like Deon Cain and Ray-Ray McCloud."

"Florida State could really send a message to all the recruits, Deon Cain and
Ray-Ray McCloud and all those guys leaving, that it's a smarter move to stay at
Florida State and win. More so than any other out-of-state program, Clemson
comes into Florida all the time and gets top recruits. This could be a big
chance for Florida State to stop that momentum a little bit and show the
in-state kids who have decided to leave that staying closer to home is a much
better option."
