Taft QB gets first offer

Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft could have up to six division one prospects on their roster this season. Everyone would like to get superstar wide receiver/defensive back Steve Smith(6-1, 190, 4.41) to sign on their letter-of-intent this February.
Noah Smith (6-0, 165, 4.35) the fine wide receiver/cornerback is also destined for division one action next season as he has 18 offers.

Another Taft player who has received his first offer is quarterback Cary Dove (6-2, 170, 4.7). Look for Dove who threw for 3,400 yards and 29 touchdowns as a junior to improve ob his numbers.
“We are going to throw a lot,” Taft head coach Troy Starr said. “Cary could throw for 5,000 yards this season.”
When you have the Smith tandem to throw to and guy like Dove who can deliver the ball, if Dove stays healthy, 5,000 yards is not out of the question.
In an earlier interview with Pac10Recruiting Starr said, “Cary carried us throughout the playoffs. He is right there with the best I’ve coached.”
High praise indeed since the last two Taft quarterbacks have gone onto the D-I level. Brandon Hance, now with USC, signed with Purdue and Ricky Clausen signed with LSU are Dove’s predecessors at Taft.
The scouting report on Dove is he’s a poised competitor with good pocket awareness and movement. He’s also very adept at passing on the run. Dove is an extremely gifted athlete who can make plays when the blocking breaks down.
Speaking about Dove’s athleticism he just recorded a standing long jump of 10 feet.
“Cary is just beginning to fill out,” Starr said. “By the time matures physically he should weigh about 210 pounds.”
“Whoever gets Cary is going to be very happy,” Starr said. “His best football is ahead of him.”
The Wyoming Cowboys were first out of the box with an offer. The word is Cal and Washington State is set to follow suit.
Other schools taking a long look are Arizona, ASU, BYU, Notre Dame, USC and UCLA.
If Dove performs like he’s capable of, look for his stock turn into a bull run for his signature on letter-of-intent day.
Dove is a definite one to put on your “one to watch” list. His recruitment could get very interesting…
