Junior to Watch: Tom Busch
School: Cottage Grove (Minn.) Park
Position: Middle linebacker
Size and Speed: The 6-foot-0, 232 pound middle linebacker from Park High School in Cottage Grove, Minnesota runs the 40-yard dash in 4.53 seconds.
Statistics: Last year as a junior, he had 150 tackles in nine games, which works out to be almost 17 tackles a game.
Besides the 150 tackles, he had four sacks, 20 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, two pass knockdowns and he blocked an extra point attempt and a punt.
Honors: He was named first team all-conference, first teamm all-metro, first team all-state and MVP for his conference as a junior. He was named first team all-conference as a sophomore.
Favorite Schools: He has one offer so far from the University of Minnesota, but you can be sure that the offers won’t end there for this top linebacker.
What are your top five schools right now?
“Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin and Northwestern.
But: “Other schools that are really high on my list are Illinois, Iowa State, Clemson, who I have been hearing a lot from them, Kansas , Kansas State, Texas A&M and Stanford.”
Skinny: Tom Busch has already gotten started on his recruiting (unofficial) trips.
“This last week I was at Nebraska. The week before that, I was at the University of Iowa. This weekend, I’m going to be at Northwestern. Wisconsin is the weekend after that. I was invited to other games, like Virginia, Louisville.”
His best bench is 405 pounds and his best squat is 505 pounds. His vertical has been measured at 32 inches.
He will have zero problems qualifying, as he carries a 3.82 grade point average. He takes his ACT on June 8 and his SAT sometime next fall, which really won’t be necessary.
