Syracuse, others pursuing Missouri-based quarterback

O’FALLON, Ill. -- Nate Martens’ lone offer is from Syracuse. He appreciates the opportunity and uses all the usual glowing platitudes when discussing the school, but it’s clear that the 2019 quarterback feels there are more offers in store.

It’s why he’s approaching his first offer with caution. This process, it seems, will be a slow one.

“I haven’t been up [to Syracuse] yet,” Martens said. “I’m just trying to figure out where they stand and stuff like that. I haven’t had very much contact with them yet, so I’m just going to try to get to know the coaching staff more.”

Martens’ who received his Syracuse offer through his coach after being observed by Orange coaches at practice, feels interest in his services increasing. He offers no concrete guess on which school could be next to the table, but he has few programs he views as possibilities.

“Michigan State and Northwestern might,” Martens said. “I’m going out to Alabama this summer. I talked to a guy from Pitt the other day.”

Martens will visit Alabama, Michigan State and Northwestern this summer. He also intends to tour Arkansas and Vanderbilt, which has only recently gotten in contact.

“My coach tells me Vanderbilt is really high on me, so I decided to go to that camp for sure,” Martens said. “I’m going to be a busy guy.”

The 6-foot-3, left-handed Martens attends Missouri’s DeSmet high school.

RIVALS REACTION: Who knows? There’s no possible way to project the landing place of a class-of-2019 quarterback with just one offer. Martens seems open to Syracuse but whether or not he visits campus will send a clearer message than anything he can say in an interview.
