Syracuse offered, now leads for Georgia DE Thurman Geathers

ACWORTH, Ga. — Thurman Geathers is up close to 15 pounds from his playing weight last fall. He sits at 228 pounds, he is working to get to 235 pounds before the season and, like his body, his recruitment is starting to take shape.

Just under 20 (18) schools have offered the 6-foot-3, 228 pound junior edge rusher out of Acworth (Ga.) North Cobb. One that offered last week has quickly moved to the too of his list — Syracuse. The Orange have the lead for Geathers and he may not be too far off from making a decision.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: "I like how Syracuse plays in the ACC and I like what the coach has been telling me since they offered," said Geathers. "I have been talking to coach [Vinson] Reynolds (defensive line) and he likes how I come off the edge as a pass rusher. We have been texting every day and he is making me feel like a priority for them.

"I have watched them on T.V. and I like how they play and I am working to get up there for a visit. Distance does not matter to me, so Syracuse being up north does not hurt them. I am hoping I can get up there on spring break here in a few weeks.

"I want to get up there to check out their academics, learn more about their school and spend some time with the coaches. I know they have my major, Sports Medicine, so I want to learn more about that too.

"Syracuse is the top school for me right now. I now just want to get up there and see how it is on their campus."

RIVALS REACTION: Geathers said, "I want to go into my senior season committed", so a decision over the summer is very likely. It could come in the spring too. He is thinking he will wait until late May to see what schools come through with offers during the spring evaluation period. He is looking for the school where he connects best with the coaches, where he can get on the field early at and who can set him up academically. Syracuse offered on March 14 and the Orange are really trending right now for this Peach State pass rusher.
