Syracuse may soon have company on defensive end's offer list

LAKELAND, Fla. – At 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds, there are more offers ahead for Tre Huntley. The class-of-2019 prospect currently lists just one, an invite from Syracuse, but that seems destined to change in the near future.

In fact, an SEC team looks to be considering making its way onto the defensive end’s offer list.

“Mississippi State is the big new thing for me,” Huntley said. “They haven’t offered yet but they have been talking to me a lot. Other than that, nothing’s really new. They just want me to keep doing what I’m doing. They like me.”

What becomes of Huntley’s offer list in the future is an issue he’ll deal with down the road. For now, he’s most interested in exploring the one option he does have. The fact that his teammate, Jack Smith, is already committed to the Orange certainly is helping to pique Huntley’s interest.

“Jack is trying to sell me,” Huntley said. “He just tells me to check it out and wait to see. I want to go visit and check it out. I don’t know much yet. I just know it’s in New York and that it’s a good school.”

Huntley and Smith both attend Florida-based powerhouse Lakeland High School. Each is likely to receive more scholarship offers this fall.

RIVALS REACTION: Projecting Huntley’s landing spot is impossible at such an early juncture. His teammate’s commitment to Syracuse will help the Orange’s cause in some small way, but there’s no way of telling where Huntley may land. There are plenty of more offers in store of the defensive end, after all.
