Syracuse grabs lineman

Robert Welsh is a talented defensive lineman from Melville (N.Y.) St. Anthony's High School. Welsh, 6-2.5 and 260 pounds, decided to make his college decision earlier today, as he committed to Syracuse.
"I actually committed this morning," Welsh said. "I love the coaches and I felt like through the whole process that I had a connection with them, especially coach (Doug) Marrone. He took a great interest in me. I just feel like Syracuse felt like the right place for me. And I love the campus."

Last season as a junior Welsh played defensive end. This season he will slide inside and play tackle.
"Initially I see myself playing the three-technique (defensive tackle). After that, who knows? I will do what is best suited for the team. I just want to get out there and contribute as quickly as I can."
Welsh is also excited about the direction of the Syracuse program, as he feels Marrone and company have the Orangemen on the right track.
"Marrone is coming back to his own school, where he graduated from. He is going to turn this around and do an unbelievable job in the process. The plan is to bring the luster back to Syracuse, play with consistency and go to bowl games. He's going to do an amazing job."
