Syracuse adds kicker

Syracuse received a verbal commitment from one of the top place kickers in the East.
Rick Krautman of Frankiln Lakes (N.J.) Ramapo had a Nov. 29 official visit set with the University of Marshall, but decided that the Carrier Dome was the place for him.

"Coach DeLeone of Syracuse called me last Monday and invited me to the Miami game. I told him that I was already scheduled for a visit with Marshall and that's when he told me that they were offering me. I called him back 10 minutes later and committed."
Other schools that had been interested in Rick were LSU, Michigan, Rutgers, Virginia and West Virginia.
"This is like a dream come true for me. Syracuse has always been a favorite of mine and I'm excited about kicking in the Dome. I'll be going on an official visit there on Dec. 13."
Rick has one high school game remaining, but so far this season he has kicked seven field goals and 33 extra points. For his career he has 21 field goals and has been good on 107 of 109 extra points.
"When I was at Syracuse for the Miami game, coach DeLeone told me that I would have every opportunity to compete for the starting job as a freshman. This is just a great chance for me to contribute early and I plan on working hard in the off season."
