Sylmars other star shines

There is no question that four-star running back C.J. Gable (6-0, 180, 4.6) from Sylmar, Calif., is one of the reasons that the Spartans are a perfect 9-0, but there is another player at Sylmar who is also playing at a high level, who is actually having a MVP type of season.
The player is free having that special season is Sylmar safety/quarterback/athlete John Austin (6-0, 180, 4.6).

"John is having a great year," Sylmar coach London Woodfin said. "As a free safety, he's picked off five passes and three of those he brought back for touchdowns."
"As a quarterback, he's thrown for over 1,000 yards," Woodfin said. "Everybody knows we have C.J., but John is having a MVP type season. We wouldn't be undefeated without him."
"Even though John throws the ball well," Woodfin said. "I think he's going to end up as a defensive back on the collegiate level."
"John covers the field well from his free safety position," Woodfin said. "He's has good size and he's very athletic."
"John is still hearing from Oregon, Oregon State and Nevada," Woodfin said. "I believe his recruitment is going to pick up after the season."
From his quarterback position, Austin has thrown for 1,033 yards and 15 touchdowns. He has also added 172 yards on the ground and accounted for three rushing touchdowns.
As a free safety, Austin has racked up 16 tackles to go with his before mentioned five interceptions.
Austin and his Sylmar teammates will hook against North Hills (Calif.) Monroe this Friday Evening in the league final. Regardless of the outcome, Sylmar has already clinched their league title and are heading to the 4A City Section playoffs.
