Sylmar star awaits test score

One of the most impressive players that not many are aware of is offensive tackle/defensive tackle Raul Suarez (6-5, 310, 5.2) from Sylmar, Calif. Suarez is an outstanding two-way player who played on the defensive side of the ball for the California All-Star team in the CaliFlorida All-Star game played earlier in the month.
“USC was by the school this week,” Sylmar head coach Ron Engliman said. “Oregon, Oregon State and Washington are also showing a lot of interest in Raul.”

“Raul is extremely quick for a big man,” Engliman said. “He is a talent and that is why schools are still checking up on him.”
“Raul is in a holding pattern until he retakes his test,” Engliman said. “He has a good chance to make it with the sliding scale. Raul carries a solid 3.0 and has all his core classes in good order.”
Suarez was selected all-league and all-area as a defensive lineman for his senior season performance in 2003. He racked up 87 tackles and five sacks.
“Some schools are looking at me as an offensive tackle,” Suarez said. “But I prefer to play defense.”
Suarez was also selected all-league and all-area as a junior but he was honored as an offensive lineman for his junior season.
In an earlier interview with Rivals.com Sylmar head coach Ron Engliman had this to say about his talented trenchman, “Raul is one of the best offensive linemen I have had here.”
That is quite a statement because Sylmar has had some good ones over the years.
