Syd Thompson Wide Open

Sacramento (Calif.) Grant athlete Syd Thompson was the California State Junior of the Year last season but hasn't felt a lot of love on the recruiting front just yet. The two way standout plans to get his junior film out this week and we'll be surprised if the offers don't start to roll in at that time.
Thompson, 5-10, 170 pounds is an electrifying athlete who was a triple threat for Grant last year on offense, defense and special teams. The athlete rushed 100 times for 900 yards and 10 touchdowns and caught 17 balls for 281 yards and three more scores. He also averaged 33 yards per punt return and 37 yards on kickoff returns. On defense, he totaled 68 tackles and three picks, two he returned for touchdowns and earned 1st team All-State Underclass as well as Student Sports Junior All-American honors for his efforts.

"I prefer defense, that's where I think my best college position will be," Thompson said. "I think my size and speed translate best at corner so that's where I see my future at."
Since one of Thompson's uncles has been helping us out at the Nike Camps the last seven years, we've been watching the athlete since he was just an 8th grader. He clocked a 4.73 in the 40 and jumped 30 inches in the vertical at the NorCal Nike camp three years ago when he was just a rising freshman. At last year's camp, he clocked the day's fastest shuttle time of 3.81 seconds and lit up the one on one drills on both sides of the ball.
"I've been getting a lot letters from every school in the Pac 10 plus Oklahoma, Miami, Michigan and Wisconsin. Arizona is my only offer right now. My coach told me UCLA had offered awhile ago but I haven't heard as much from them and haven't gotten anything in writing as far as an offer, just the Wildcats. Right now, I'm pretty open to anyone. I like the West Coast and the Pac 10 but I don't really have any favorites right now. I'm sending my tape out this week and I know a lot of schools are waiting to get my film before they get a little more serious.
"I just want to go through the process and see who is interested in me before I name who I like. Whoever shows me interest and wants to offer, that school will be high on my list. I want to take all my trips before I make my decision so I'm in no hurry to commit. Right now, I'm just getting for the Nike Camp and working as hard as I can."
